Turkish contractors secured 57 overseas projects worth a combined $2.7 billion across 27 countries in the first half of 2026, with contract value falling 56.5% from $6.2 billion and the number of projects dropping 38.7% from 93 in the same period a year earlier.

Since 1972, Turkish contractors have undertaken 12,931 projects in 138 countries with a combined value of $566.1 billion, while the sector remains among the world's top 10 by international contracting revenue, according to the Trade Ministry.

Contract value swings over recent years

Turkish contractors handled 386 overseas projects worth about $18 billion in 2020 before contract value jumped to a record $32 billion in 2021, when they secured 463 projects abroad.

The total slipped to $20 billion in 2022 as the COVID-19 pandemic continued to weigh on global construction activity, although the number of projects rose to 512.

The market picked up again over the next two years, with Turkish firms taking on 450 projects worth $28.8 billion in 2023 and 386 projects valued at $29.9 billion in 2024 despite global economic headwinds and the Russia-Ukraine war.

In 2025, Turkish contractors carried out 321 overseas projects with a combined value of $25.7 billion.

Average project value falls

The average value of overseas projects has also shifted over the past decade. After reaching $83.7 million in 2015, the average project value stood at $69.1 million in 2021 before falling to $39.2 million in 2022.

It then climbed to $64.4 million in 2023 and $77.5 million in 2024, edging up further to $80.2 million in 2025. In the first half of 2026, however, the average project value dropped to $47.7 million.

The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) has accounted for 42.7% of all overseas projects completed by Turkish contractors to date, making it the sector's largest regional market.

The Middle East follows with 25.4%, while Africa accounts for 18.5%. Europe holds a 10.4% share, with Asia making up the remaining 2.6%.

By sector, roads, tunnels and bridges remain the biggest source of overseas business for Turkish contractors. They are followed by housing and residential projects, power plants, railway projects, and shopping centers.
