Türkiye's cosmetics sector is strengthening its position in the global market by producing sun care products in line with international standards.
According to information compiled by Turkish news agency Anadolu from the Trade Ministry's sector report, Türkiye's cosmetics and personal care products market grows by an average of 10% each year.
The sector, which produces at world standards in terms of quality, is increasing its capacity to adapt to foreign markets and improving its global position through product safety and good manufacturing practices.
Demand for sun care products has risen rapidly worldwide in recent years. Consumers now use sun protection products not only in summer but throughout the year.
In parallel with this trend, the sun care products market is growing both in Türkiye and globally.
Fuat Arslan, chairman of the Cosmetic Manufacturers and Researchers Association (KUAD), said awareness of sun care products has increased significantly.
Arslan said that in addition to sunscreens with high protection factors, multifunctional products suitable for sensitive skin and daily use have recently come to the fore.
He said products combining skin care with sun protection are also gaining prominence in the market.
Turkish manufacturers have rapidly adapted to these expectations with their strong infrastructure and product development capabilities, developing products in line with international standards, Arslan said.
Arslan said the Turkish cosmetics sector holds a strong position in global markets with its quality standards.
"In sun care products, our domestic manufacturers both meet the needs of the domestic market and export value-added products to many countries," he said.
"The Middle East, the Gulf and North African countries, as well as the Balkans and the Turkic republics, are among our prominent export markets," he added.
Arslan said Türkiye also has significant production capacity in after-sun care products and daily skin care products containing sun protection factor (SPF).
Arslan said KUAD supports quality-focused production, regulatory compliance and export-oriented work to increase the competitiveness of domestic manufacturers in international markets.
He said Türkiye has significant potential to become a regional production and research and development (R&D) center in sun care products.
Arslan said the country's young and qualified human resources, geographic location and innovation ecosystem provide an advantage in this field.
He also said cooperation between the public sector, universities and the private sector should be strengthened further.
"Supporting R&D investments, expanding practices that will encourage exports and continuing policies that will increase international competitiveness are of great importance for our sector," Arslan said.
Arslan said the most important topics that will shape the sector in the next five years will be "science-based innovation," "sustainable production" and "new-generation product technologies."
He said consumers no longer look only at a product's protection factor but also place greater importance on reliability, ingredients and environmental impact.
Companies that increase R&D investments, adopt sustainable production and develop value-added products will gain a competitive advantage both in the domestic market and in exports, Arslan said.
He said global demand for natural, reliable and high-value-added products is rising.
"Türkiye can respond to this demand with its rich plant diversity, local botanical resources, strong production infrastructure and product development capabilities," Arslan said.
"Transforming Anatolia's botanical richness into value-added sun care products through scientific studies will provide our brands with a significant competitive advantage in international markets," he added.
