Out of 16,699,084 workers in Türkiye, 2,413,790 are members of labor unions, according to official data published on Wednesday.
The figures were included in the Ministry of Labor and Social Security’s communique titled “January 2026 Statistics on the Number of Workers by Branches of Activity and the Membership Numbers of Labor Unions Pursuant to Law No. 6356 on Trade Unions and Collective Bargaining Agreements,” released in the Official Gazette.
The data show that unionized workers account for 14.45% of Türkiye’s total workforce.
Among the country’s 20 branches of activity, the largest workforce was recorded in the trade, office, education and fine arts sector, which employs 4,375,904 workers.
It was followed by the metal sector with 1,918,111 workers and the construction sector with 1,711,852 workers, according to the ministry.
In terms of union size, Hizmet-Is ranked first nationwide with 276,537 members.
It was followed by the Turkish Metal Union with 271,600 members and Oz Saglik-Is with 215,234 members.
The communique is issued twice a year and forms the legal basis for determining which unions are authorized to engage in collective bargaining under Turkish labor law.
