45th Istanbul Film Festival announces 2026 program, gala films

The Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV) shared the details for the upcoming 45th Istanbul Film Festival today.

The festival will run from April 9 to 19 and features a selection of 127 feature films and 13 short films.

Festival Director Kerem Ayan, IKSV Deputy General Manager Yesim Gurer Oymak, and Aktif Bank General Manager Aysegul Adaca Ogan attended a press conference at The Marmara Taksim to launch the event.

The program includes award-winning films, special screenings, and appearances by international directors and actors.

Opening night and gala screenings

The festival opens with "Three Goodbyes" (Uc Veda), the latest film from Catalan director Isabel Coixet.

The drama stars Alba Rohrwacher and Elio Germano and recently premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The "N Kolay Gala Screenings" section will showcase several of the most anticipated films of the season. The lineup includes:

  • The Wizard of the Kremlin (Le mage du Kremlin)
  • Murder in the Building
  • Mother Mary
  • Fuze
  • Pompeii: Below the Clouds
  • Nirvanna: The Band - the Show - the Movie
  • Silent Friend
  • Normal
  • Fashion

The "Around the World" (Devrialem) section will also present new examples of international cinema, such as "How to Divorce During the War," "The Loneliest Man in Town," and "Inside Amir." Tickets go on sale through the Passo platform on March 27.

Meetings on the Bridge and industry support

The festival continues its support for cinema professionals through the 21st "Meetings on the Bridge" event.

The "Work in Progress Platform," scheduled for April 14–16, recently announced its project selection.

A jury including festival programmer Celine Roustan, producer Guillaume de Seille, and director Rezan Yesilbas chose 10 projects.

These projects, such as "Aslanlar ve Ceylanlar "(Lions and Gazelles) and "Hakikatin Olumu" (The Death of Truth), have completed filming in Türkiye.

The teams will receive training in script development and marketing before meeting international industry professionals to secure post-production and distribution support.

Global arts events for the week

The Istanbul announcement coincides with a busy week for the international arts community.

Several festivals and performances begin across Europe and the United States between March 25 and March 30:

  • Festivals: The Anilogue International Animation Festival starts in Budapest, while Amsterdam hosts Cinedans FEST. Sofia begins its 26th European Music Festival on March 26.
  • Concerts: Composer Hans Zimmer performs in Lyon, Valencia, Barcelona, and Madrid. Andrea Bocelli has scheduled shows in Antwerp and Amsterdam.
  • Cinema: New releases in the United States this week include "Project Hail Mary," "Forbidden Fruits," and "They Will Kill You."
