Following a domestic haul of $123.5 million in its opening frame, the Christopher Nolan epic added another $87 million at the domestic box office this weekend, marking just a 30% decline from its opening weekend.
Combined with another $215.3 million from international markets, the ancient Greek epic's global total now stands at an estimated $639.6 million.
The $87 million domestic haul is the second-best weekend two ever for an R-rated film, behind only "Deadpool & Wolverine's" $97 million two years ago.
In terms of holds, it's also the third-best ever for a film that opened to more than $100 million, trailing only Wicked (27.9%) and Paramount's "Top Gun: Maverick" (28.9%).
A significant share of the film's revenue is coming from IMAX screens, the format Nolan favors most. Global IMAX ticket sales have reached $140 million so far, according to Variety.
Demand has been so intense that IMAX showings in cities like Los Angeles and New York are booked out for weeks ahead, pushing resellers to list tickets for as much as $1,000 on the secondary market.
In days, ''The Odyssey'' will face its next test as Sony's ''Spider-Man: Brand New Day,'' led by Tom Holland and Zendaya, hits theaters and could pull audience attention away.
Still, theater owners welcome the dual blockbuster success, which provides crucial late-summer momentum as the industry heads into August, a month historically marked by a box office slowdown.
