Antalya, one of the world’s most significant tourism destinations, hosted 3.25 million visitors at its museums and ancient sites in 2024. Known for its natural beauty, turquoise waters and historical treasures, the city remains a magnet for history and culture enthusiasts.
Among the city’s attractions, the Antalya Archaeology Museum emerged as the most visited museum, while Patara Ancient City claimed the title of the most popular ancient site.
Patara alone welcomed 354,199 visitors, followed by Phaselis Ancient City with 337,938 and Aspendos Ancient City with 326,648.
Candemir Zoroglu, director of culture and tourism for Antalya, described 2024 as a groundbreaking year for tourism.
"Despite regional challenges, Antalya has proven itself as a global tourism hub. With over 17 million total visitors last year, we anticipate even greater achievements in 2025," Zoroglu stated.
Efforts to expand tourism throughout the year include promoting cultural, sports, gastronomic, and high-quality travel experiences. Restoration, excavation and promotional activities supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism have significantly bolstered this goal.
Zoroglu highlighted the contributions of the "Night Museum" project, initiated by Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, as a major driver of success. Plans are in motion to expand this initiative further, enhancing visitor experiences across Antalya.
Antalya’s museums and ancient sites generated an impressive income of ₺274.7 million ($7.75 million) in 2024. The city’s cultural landmarks, including the Antalya Archaeology Museum and upcoming projects such as the Kemer Underwater Archaeology Museum, continue to drive local and international interest.
The Antalya Archaeology Museum is set for a transformative renovation, with construction expected to begin soon. These advancements aim to elevate Antalya’s global standing as a center for cultural tourism.
As Antalya looks to 2025, the city remains committed to preserving and showcasing its rich cultural heritage, cementing its place as a top-tier global destination.
