US singer Ariana Grande filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court against "John Doe" defendants following a massive data breach involving her unreleased music and photos, according to court filings and U.S. media reports.
The complaint details a sophisticated hacking campaign that targeted the digital accounts and devices of Grande's photographers, producers, and close collaborators, rather than her own personal systems. Once inside, hackers allegedly stole unreleased songs, recording-session footage, music video material, and behind-the-scenes photographs before selling them on the dark web.
The cyber-intrusions date back to 2019, when a photographer's Dropbox account was compromised to steal unreleased photos. In 2020, a producer's mobile device was hacked, exposing master tracks, demos, and session footage still in production. According to the lawsuit, the cybercriminals stole and leaked 45 unreleased songs in 2023 alone.
The complaint details a specific 2024 incident where hackers created a fake Gmail account and internet domain to impersonate a photographer. They then deceived the photographer's digital technician into handing over unreleased images of Grande. According to the filing, the pop star has faced hundreds of similar leaks since launching her music career in 2011.
The lawsuit accuses the unidentified defendants of invasion of privacy, conversion, and violations of California's Comprehensive Computer Data Access and Fraud Act. Grande is seeking unspecified damages, the return of all stolen material, and a court order barring further distribution of the leaked content. She has also requested a jury trial.
