Sabahattin Ali’s novel "Madonna in a Fur Coat" is being adapted into a feature film, with Sedat Inci set to direct.
The project was announced in 2024 as a digital series, with Enes Ates named as director.
It has now been reworked as a film, in a shift that gives the long-awaited adaptation of one of Türkiye’s most widely read novels a more concrete form.
The film will be produced by Fikri Harika Production and Sacakli Film Studios. It is being developed as an international co-production, with part of the shooting planned in partnership with Babelsberg Studios in Berlin and the rest in Türkiye. The 2024 announcement described the project as a German-Turkish co-production.
The cast has not been announced. Talks with actors are continuing, and the lineup is expected to be revealed soon.
Who will play the leads, Raif Efendi and Maria Puder, remains unknown.
No start date for filming has been set, and it is not yet clear whether the film will be released in theaters or on a streaming platform.
First published in 1943, the novel has remained a fixture on Turkish bestseller lists. It has been translated into many languages and has found a wide readership abroad.
