Two siblings from the village of Demirci in the Ayvacik district of Canakkale have made an extraordinary discovery, unearthing a ring seal believed to date back to the Eastern Roman Empire, or known as the Byzantine period. The artifact has been handed over to the Troy Museum for further examination.

A curious discovery by young enthusiasts

The discovery was made by 10-year-old Aden Dayangac, who had previously participated in the "Kids Takeover the Museum Day (Cocuklar Muzeyi Ele Gecirdi)" project at Troy Museum last year. While exploring near their home, Aden stumbled upon an object that seemed to have historical value.

Aden showed the find to his 14-year-old brother, Doran Dayangac. Upon closer inspection, the siblings noticed a rooster figure on the object, which prompted them to bring it to the museum.

Confirming the artifact’s authenticity

Museum experts at the Troy Museum carefully examined the object and identified it as a ring seal from the Eastern Roman Empire. The depiction of a rooster on the seal is a notable feature, often associated with symbolic meanings in ancient cultures.

A remarkable contribution to local heritage

The museum authorities have praised the siblings for their responsible actions, highlighting the importance of public awareness in preserving cultural heritage. Their discovery has now become a part of the museum’s collection, adding to the understanding of the region’s historical significance.
