Istanbul State Opera and Ballet will bring Edusa to the stage for its world premiere on March 28 at the Turk Telekom Opera Hall of the Ataturk Cultural Center, known locally as AKM, in Istanbul. The production stands out as the work of Guldiyar Tanridagli, described in the announcement as the first Turkish woman composer whose opera will be staged.
According to the statement from the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet, Edusa carries Anatolia's thousands of years of memory onto the stage. The libretto was written by Professor Iskender Pala, while director Caner Akin brought together a traditional operatic narrative with contemporary and experimental staging methods.
Pala said the work sets out the idea that a society's real strength does not come from land or material wealth, but from the culture passed down from one generation to the next. The story also underlines that lasting justice rests not only on the will of those in power, but on cultural values, ethical understanding, and collective memory.
The Istanbul State Opera and Ballet's Orchestra will be conducted by Ibrahim Yazici during the performances. The set and visual design was prepared by Efter Tunc, costumes by Olcay Engin Kaymaz, lighting by Cem Yilmazer, video design by Aisha Hajiyeva, and choreography by Berk Saribay. The Istanbul State Opera and Ballet Chorus will be led by Anil Aydin.
After its March 28 premiere, Edusa will return to the AKM stage on April 2, 4, 11, 18 and 30.
