Halit Ergenc and Meryem Uzerli, the lead actors of the globally popular Turkish television series “Magnificent Century,” are expected to reunite on screen after 15 years in a new film project titled “Imroz’da Bahar” (Spring in Imroz).
The two actors became internationally known for their roles in the historical drama that aired between 2011 and 2014. Ergenc portrayed Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, while Uzerli played Hurrem Sultan, one of the most influential figures in the Ottoman court.
The series, which also starred Okan Yalabik, Nebahat Cehre, Selma Ergec, and Nur Fettahoglu, reached audiences in many countries and remains one of Türkiye’s most widely exported television productions.
According to journalist Birsen Altuntas, the reunion project was brought together by Sky Films founder Emre Oskay, who succeeded in reuniting the two actors after years of offers for them to work together again.
Halit Ergenc and Meryem Uzerli will share the lead roles in the film “Imroz’da Bahar,” directed by award-winning Turkish filmmaker Ozcan Alper.
Alper is known for films such as "Sonbahar" (Autumn), "Karanlik Gece" (Black Night), "Erken Kis" (Early Winter), and "Asiklar Bayrami" (The Festival of Troubadours).
The story focuses on two people whose lives intersect on the island of Imroz, known today as Gokceada, Türkiye’s largest island in the Aegean Sea. The film follows their meeting and explores the possibility of a “second spring” in life.
The narrative asks a central question: whether love can emerge again during a new chapter of life on the island.
Production on the film is expected to begin soon, although the digital platform that will distribute the project in Türkiye has not yet been announced.
The project marks the first time Ergenc and Uzerli will appear together in a film since their roles in “Magnificent Century,” which remains one of the most recognizable Turkish historical dramas worldwide.
Uzerli gained international fame through the series but left the production during later seasons after experiencing burnout syndrome during filming. The role of Hurrem Sultan was later continued by actress Vahide Percin.
Despite her early departure, Uzerli’s portrayal of Hurrem Sultan remains closely associated with the success of the series, which continues to attract viewers through repeat broadcasts and international streaming.
Reports about the new project have already drawn attention from fans of the original series, many of whom remember the on screen partnership between Ergenc and Uzerli as one of the defining elements of the production.
