Magnus Carlsen beats Türkiye’s Yagiz Kaan in TePe Sigeman final round

Türkiye’s 14-year-old national chess player Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus lost to world No. 1 Magnus Carlsen in the final round of the 2026 TePe Sigeman Chess Tournament in Malmo, Sweden.

The match brought together Norwegian grandmaster Carlsen, regarded as the world’s No. 1 chess player, and Yagiz Kaan, one of the rising names of Turkish chess.

Yagiz Kaan had been one of the standout players of the prestigious tournament before the final round.

He entered the match level on points with Carlsen, making the game one of the most important classical chess tests of his career.

Carlsen wins with experience in critical moments

Carlsen used his experience at critical moments and left the game with a victory.

Although Yagiz Kaan was defeated by the experienced opponent, his overall performance at the tournament drew attention from the international chess community.

The young Turkish player achieved successful results against several top-level names during the event.

Yagiz Kaan draws praise despite defeat

Despite the loss, Yagiz Kaan’s performance at the 2026 TePe Sigeman Chess Tournament was praised.

The 14-year-old national chess player drew attention both in Türkiye and abroad with his showing in Malmo.

After his performance at the prestigious event, Yagiz Kaan is being viewed among future world champion candidates in the international chess community.
