The third annual Mountain, Nature, Ice Cream Festival is underway in Nigde, a province in Türkiye's Central Anatolia region, running from July 31 to Aug. 2 with a program of hikes, workshops and local tastings aimed at promoting the Aladaglar mountain range and the ice cream tradition of the Camardi district.
The event is jointly organized by the Nigde governor's office, Nigde Municipality, Camardi district authorities and Nigde Omer Halisdemir University, alongside a related mountaineering festival.
On the festival's second day, participants took part in nature walks and workshops in the Emli Valley, located within the Aladaglar range in southern Nigde province.
Local products and Camardi ice cream were offered to attendees alongside camping and off-road vehicle showcases.
Nigde Governor Nedim Akmese said nearly 4,500 mountaineers took part in climbing activities in the valley that day, with climbs carried out simultaneously on five summits.
He said all mountaineers had returned safely so far, with officials awaiting the return of those on the Demirkazik route.
“We hope this will contribute to promoting our province,” Akmese said, inviting mountain and nature enthusiasts nationwide to visit Camardi and see Demirkazik.
Nigde Mayor Emrah Ozdemir said the festival opened in the city center with a procession the previous day and is continuing in the Camardi district, with further events planned there.
He noted that Camardi's ice cream-making tradition dates back nearly half a century, is passed down from master to apprentice, and is now sold across Türkiye.
Describing the Emli Valley, an important route for mountaineers, Ozdemir said, “This view doesn't exist anywhere else.”
Following the speeches, Akmese and Ozdemir toured stands set up at the festival site alongside local officials. The festival is set to close Aug. 2 with a concert in Camardi.
