"Trees Are Watching," a psychological horror film starring Eva Green and Turkish actor Murat Yildirim, had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Director Bahman Ghobadi's film has Martin Scorsese serving as executive producer, with Seyfi Sahin producing.
Murat Yildirim appeared on the red carpet at TIFF Lightbox's largest theater, where the film screened as part of the festival's Centrepiece programme, drawing a crowd of fans and international media.
The actor was joined by his wife, Iman Elbani, for the occasion. On screen, the psychological horror film unfolds through the eyes of novelist Darya's character.
The film follows Darya, played by Eva Green, a writer who returns to her hometown of Mardin with her deaf daughter. There, she finds herself pulled back into unsettling memories of twin sisters from her childhood, a haunting that deepens when a wooden chair begins appearing in her family home night after night.
Bahman Ghobadi, known for exploring themes of exile, displacement and identity throughout his career. He broke through with his 2000 debut "A Time for Drunken Horses" and later won the Golden Shell at San Sebastian for "Turtles Can Fly" (2004).
"Trees Are Watching" marks his latest feature, drawing once again on his personal experience of exile, this time channeled into a psychological horror story rooted in the landscape of Mardin.
