German actor Sandra Huller, an Oscar nominee for "Anatomy of a Fall," has joined the cast of Marvel’s "Avengers: Doomsday" in a cameo role.
Speculation about Huller and the superhero film began about two weeks ago, when her name appeared on the British Stunt Register.
Her role is being kept under wraps. Fans have guessed that she could play the mother of the villain Doctor Doom, a witch, or a member of the Latverian Witches, a group of hooded sorceresses.
Little is known about the plot. The film is expected to bring together heroes from different timelines to take on Doom, a sorcerer and scientist whose power threatens the universe.
"Doomsday" is in the late stages of post-production and is due in theaters Dec. 18. Robert Downey Jr. stars as Doom. The cast also draws on several recent Marvel releases, including "Thunderbolts," "Fantastic Four: First Steps" and "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever," as well as the "Thor" films and the earlier "“X-Men" movies. Chris Evans returns as Steve Rogers, after appearing in "Deadpool & Wolverine" as Johnny Storm.
Anthony and Joe Russo are directing.
Huller, who is represented by UTA, broke through with Hollywood audiences in "Anatomy of a Fall" and "The Zone of Interest."
This year, she appeared in "Project Hail Mary" as the person who recruits Ryan Gosling’s character to help save the planet.
