Grammy-nominated producer Tay Keith died at 29 from an accidental drug overdose, according to an autopsy report from the Nashville Office of the Medical Examiner.
Keith, whose real name was Brytavious Lakeith Chambers, was found dead in his Nashville apartment on June 18 during a police welfare check, with no foul play suspected. The medical examiner's report attributed his death to toxicity from ketamine and kratom-related compounds.
The Metro Nashville Police Department said in a statement at the time that no foul play was suspected.
"He was found dead in his Martin St apt this afternoon by officers performing a welfare check," read the statement. "His death is unclassified pending autopsy results."
Tay Keith, who helped shape the sound of contemporary hip-hop by producing standout tracks such as Travis Scott's "Sicko Mode" and Drake's "Rich Flex," began making beats in his teens.
Keith earned his bachelor's degree from MTSU in Dec. 2018 and received his first Grammy nomination the following year for Best Rap Song for Travis Scott's "Sicko Mode" at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards.
He was the first in his family to graduate from college, having chosen to finish his degree despite already finding success in music.
The second Grammy nomination came in 2024, for Best Rap Song for Drake and 21 Savage's "Rich Flex."
Over the course of his career, he notched 11 top-10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and was named to Forbes' 30 Under 30 list in 2025.
His sound drew on the traditions of Southern hip-hop acts such as Three 6 Mafia and 8Ball & MJG, helping establish him as one of the genre's defining producers.
