CerModern opened the Rewind/Slovenia exhibition this week in Ankara.
The project brings Turkish and Sloven artists together through shared production and cultural exchange. The show includes works by Hakan Esmer, Serdar Leblebici, Ozgur Eryilmaz, Semih Kaplan, Ive Subic and Maja Subic.
Visitors see paintings produced with different techniques on canvas, paper and a variety of surfaces.
The exhibition reflects the group’s observations from different countries.
Curator Erkan Doganay said four Turkish artists started the Rewind project with a shared vision. They aim to represent Türkiye abroad and build links between Türkiye and other regions. Doganay said they launched the first edition with Rome last year at the same venue in Ankara.
The second phase focuses on Slovenia. The artists spent time there and built the exhibition around what they observed during their visit. Doganay said the group carried these impressions back to their studios and created large scale works for the Ankara exhibition.
He stressed the importance of cultural exchange and said art offers a direct way to meet unfamiliar cultures.
The exhibition brings together around 120 works.
Curator Doganay said visitors can see pieces created with oil paint, watercolor, gouache and charcoal. He added that the team plans to launch a book about the exhibition in December.
Artist Hakan Esmer explained how the collaboration started. He first visited Slovenia in 2017 for another project and met the Subic family at that time. This connection shaped the direction of the new exhibition.
Esmer said the show includes works by Maja Subic along with pieces by her father, and four Turkish artists present their own works alongside them.
Esmer said the group plans to expand the Rewind project to more countries. They established connections for future editions titled Rewind/Spain, Rewind/Nurnberg and Rewind/Stockholm. He said they want to step outside their studios, form new friendships and build artistic networks through international work.
When can visitors view the collection?
CerModern will keep the Rewind/Slovenia exhibition open until the end of December 2025. Visitors in Ankara can view the full collection during the winter season.
