Sadie Sink's role in the film has been confirmed as the mutant character Jean Grey, following months of speculation among fans and film outlets. Marvel and Sink had kept the casting undisclosed ahead of the film's release.
Speculation about Sink's role began before the film's first trailer was released in March, which included a brief clip of a figure in a green jacket. Fans connected the character to Jean Grey based on Sink's red hair and the character's classic comic-book association with the color green.
Director Destin Daniel Cretton addressed the secrecy earlier this month in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, saying the studio withheld details to preserve the viewing experience for audiences. He said those seeing the film on opening weekend would have "a much cooler experience" without prior knowledge of certain plot elements.
"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" is the fourth installment in the franchise and stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker, with Zendaya and Jacob Batalon reprising their roles as MJ and Ned. The film follows Holland's Spider-Man from 2021's "Spider-Man: No Way Home," and depicts Parker living alone as Spider-Man in a world that no longer remembers him, before a new villain emerges.
Sink previously discussed her excitement about joining the franchise, describing Spider-Man as a longtime favorite and noting parallels with her earlier experience joining "Stranger Things" as a fan of the series.
She also referenced having worked with Cretton on an earlier project when she was 14.
