Prime Video and MGM+ have canceled "Spider-Noir," the crime drama starring Nicolas Cage, after a single season, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed on September 4, 2026.
The series marked Cage's first regular television role. Based on the Marvel Comics character, "Spider-Noir" first aired on MGM+ on May 25, 2026, before Prime Video released all eight episodes together two days later.
Cage had previously voiced a different version of the character in the animated film "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse." Prime Video released every episode in both black-and-white and color versions, a first for a Marvel television project.
The show received a 92% critics score and a 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. "Spider-Noir" also earned 11 Emmy nominations this year, the most of any Prime Video series in the current award cycle.
According to Variety, the series recorded 2.6 billion viewing minutes on Nielsen streaming rankings during its first six weeks on air. Streaming platforms generally do not disclose the financial or completion-rate data behind renewal decisions.
The official logline describes "Spider-Noir" as the story of Ben Reilly (Cage), "a seasoned, down-on-his-luck private investigator in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life following a deeply personal tragedy, as the city's one and only superhero."
"Spider-Noir" was the first series to emerge from a partnership between Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Studios to expand stories within Sony's universe of Marvel characters.
Despite the cancellation, the two studios are continuing development on additional projects tied to the deal, according to Deadline, with one further title said to be nearing a series order.
The cast included Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, Abraham Popoola, Jack Huston and Brendan Gleeson. Guest stars included Lukas Haas, Cameron Britton, Cary Christopher, Michael Kostroff, Scott MacArthur, Joe Massingill, Whitney Rice, Amanda Schull, Andrew Caldwell, Amy Aquino, Andrew Robinson and Kai Caster.
Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot served as co-showrunners and executive producers. Harry Bradbeer directed and executive produced the first two episodes.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller executive produced for Lord Miller, alongside Aditya Sood and Dan Shear. Amy Pascal executive produced for Pascal Pictures, and Cage and Pavlina Hatoupis also served as executive producers.
All eight episodes of "Spider-Noir" remain available to stream on Prime Video.
