Actor Robert Pattinson revealed that director Matt Reeves’ upcoming sequel, "The Batman Part II," will take a dramatic departure from the 2022 film "The Batman," describing the project as an ambitious reinvention rather than a simple continuation.
Speaking about the highly anticipated superhero sequel, Pattinson explained that while the film retains the distinct noir atmosphere and tone of the original movie, the narrative takes an unexpected "left turn."
He added that the script is extraordinarily detailed and dense, noting that even minor story elements tie into a meticulously planned vision by Reeves.
"When you see it, the script is incredibly dense, and it’s like he’s just one of those directors ... it’s really obvious that he has the entire thing in his head already, and so it’s unusual to be working with someone when you keep forgetting little elements. There’s so much in it that it’s almost impossible to encompass the whole thing, but when you keep finding out, you’re like, ‘Oh, no, you know exactly what you want to do with this.’ There’s just something so cool about it."
Characterizing the project as a major leap forward, Pattinson explained that the storyline branches off in a surprisingly fresh direction while retaining the grounded aesthetic of the first installment.
He added that the creative direction feels remarkably daring, expressing eager anticipation for how the final vision comes together on screen.
By elevating Oz Cobb from a minor mob figure into the focal point of "The Penguin," Reeves demonstrated his ability to expand Gotham City's narrative canvas beyond Bruce Wayne.
The more expansive sequel allows the director to weave those broader criminal and political storylines back into Batman's journey. Along with Pattinson, original cast members Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell return for the follow-up, which also adds high-profile newcomers Sebastian Stan and Scarlett Johansson to the ensemble.
"The Batman Part II" is currently scheduled for theatrical release on Feb. 18, 2028.
