Fans, collectors and cosplayers gathered in Lima, the capital of Peru on the country's Pacific coast, on Sept. 19 to celebrate Batman Day Peru 2026, marking 87 years since the character's debut in Detective Comics #27 in 1939.
The event, organized by the Batman Fans Peru Club, was held at Casona Manya in Lima's Centro Civico district and offered free admission over two days.
Activities included collectible exhibitions, cosplay photo opportunities, lectures, contests, raffles, and screenings of classic Batman films. As part of the celebrations, the Bat-Signal was projected onto one of the tallest buildings in downtown Lima.
Victor Felipe Sandoval, founder of the Batman Fans Peru Club, said what he likes most about the character is "his darkness, his sadness and, above all, his courage," adding that Batman is "human, like you, like me."
Batman Day was established by DC Comics and Warner Bros. in 2014, with the first celebration held that July to mark the character's 75th anniversary alongside San Diego Comic-Con.
Since then, the occasion has been held annually in September and has grown into a global event, with comic shops, fan communities and cities worldwide holding signings, cosplay contests, giveaways and Bat-Signal projections.
