Turkish actor and director Ozcan Deniz's latest film, "The Last Supper" (Son Yemek), made its Türkiye premiere at the 63rd International Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival, where the cast discussed the challenges of bringing the romantic drama to the screen.
The film screened in the festival's National Gala section at the Aspendos Hall of the Ataturk Cultural Center in Antalya, southern Türkiye.
Written and directed by Deniz, who also stars in the production, the film features Oyku Karayel, Tilbe Saran, Ozgur Emre Yildirim, Nejat Isler, Ceyda Duvenci, Gonca Vuslateri and Helin Kandemir.
Following the screening, cast members came together for a discussion with the audience.
During the discussion, Deniz explained that he generally tries to avoid taking on acting roles in films he writes and directs, preferring to focus on filmmaking behind the camera.
He revealed that he had spent approximately a year asking for other actors to be considered for his role in "The Last Supper" before eventually taking on the part himself.
Reflecting on the difficulties of handling both responsibilities, Deniz emphasized that the biggest challenge was not acting itself but performing opposite another actor while simultaneously overseeing the production.
"The difficult part isn't acting. What's difficult is acting opposite a scene partner while also being the director," he said.
Fellow cast member Oyku Karayel spoke about her experience working with Deniz, saying that her respect for his storytelling had grown over time.
Karayel recalled how Deniz had initially described the film's emotional direction in a gentle and sincere manner.
Having watched the completed production for the first time at the festival, she said the final result reflected the warm, heartfelt story he had originally envisioned.
"The Last Supper" follows Bekir and Sebahat, a young pianist, whose paths cross during a secret mission, bringing their lives together in unexpected circumstances.
Years later, Sebahat recounts their love story to her neighbors, looking back on a relationship shaped by separation, longing and reunion as the couple confronts life's challenges.
The premiere took place as the 63rd International Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival, hosted by Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, continued its program of screenings and audience discussions.
