Turkish singer Nukhet Duru has revealed that she continues to receive royalty income linked to a song by Canadian R&B star The Weeknd after the global artist used elements inspired by her music in his track "Often."
The development resurfaced after Duru publicly spoke about the royalties she receives, prompting The Weeknd to respond on social media with a brief but notable message: “My pleasure.”
Duru, a well-known voice in Turkish music, recently explained that she has earned income through royalties connected to The Weeknd’s song “Often.”
According to the singer, the payments stem from claims that the track drew inspiration from her earlier song Ben Sana Vurgunum.
While speaking about the matter, Duru said that The Weeknd continues to send money linked to the song and noted that the royalties have brought her significant earnings. She described the arrangement by saying that the artist used her song in “Often,” which resulted in regular payments.
Royalty payments refer to income that artists receive when their music is used, sampled, or otherwise incorporated into other works. In the global music industry, such payments can come from streaming platforms, licensing agreements, or copyright settlements.
The story quickly gained traction online after The Weeknd shared a post referencing Duru’s remarks. Reposting the statement about the royalties, the Canadian singer responded simply by writing, “My pleasure.”
The brief response triggered renewed interest in the connection between the two songs and drew attention from music fans across social media platforms.
Released in 2014, “Often” became one of The Weeknd’s most recognizable tracks and spent a long time on international music charts.
The song helped cement his global reputation during the early stages of his career.
