Turkish girl group Manifest has topped YouTube’s global charts with its first English-language single, "TRALALA," outpacing new releases from Shakira and Burna Boy and drawing both praise and debate from fans.

The upbeat track blends glossy pop with sharp choreography and cultural nods, including the Turkish-Arabic phrase "mashallah," used to express admiration or to ward off bad luck.

The song is the group’s most visible push beyond its home market.

Many fans have praised the group’s dance moves, and dance challenges built around the song have spread online.

Viewers cheer choreography, lyrics

Viewers have posted their own versions of the routine, which relies on sharp, synchronized movement that has become a hallmark of the group’s live and video performances.

The lyrics have also drawn attention, particularly a line that calls someone angelic and blessed and ends with "mashallah." For many English-speaking listeners, it is their first encounter with the expression.

One fan wrote on X that the phrase "is going in my vocab from now on," after quoting the line.

Familiar sound, or too Turkish? Critics split

Some listeners argue the song borrows too heavily from established global pop and K-pop-style girl group formulas, saying the glossy sound and tightly choreographed routines feel familiar.

Others questioned whether the song needs to lean so heavily on cultural references when the group says it wants to reach a global audience. For these fans, the Turkish touches risk feeling forced or confusing to international listeners, and a more universal sound might serve a worldwide push better.

Manifest formed in early 2025 from a talent competition and quickly built a large following in Türkiye with Turkish-language hits. "TRALALA" marks a deliberate shift toward international audiences.
