Pinar Deniz, known internationally for her role as Ceylin in ''Yargi'' (Family Secrets), is returning to television after a maternity break with the lead role in ''Sapkaci Kadinlar'' (The Hat Sellers), a new period drama produced by O3 Medya for Turkish network NOW.

Deniz will play Ayse, a peasant woman from a village near Izmir whose fate changes during Türkiye's War of Independence, and who later reinvents herself as a style icon in the years following the 1925 Hat Law reform.

Written by Necati Sahin and directed by Omur Atay, the series is produced by O3 Medya for NOW. Actor Selahattin Pasali, last seen in "Kiskanmak," co-stars as the male lead, Riza.

The actress was originally offered a part in the series roughly two years ago but declined due to her pregnancy at the time.

She has returned to acting after the break, most recently appearing in Nuri Bilge Ceylan's film "Yorgun Gunes," before now taking on the lead role in "The Hat Sellers."

From Netflix to Emmys

Deniz built her international profile leading "Family Secrets," which won the International Emmy for Best Telenovela, a category honoring top scripted dramas produced outside the U.S., in 2023.

Before that, she broke out playing Yildiz in the acclaimed period drama "Vatanim Sensin" (Wounded Love), then crossed over to global audiences as teacher Burcu in Netflix's Turkish teen hit "Love 101."

She later also starred in the Disney+ series "Aktris,'' in which she played a famous actress who secretly leads a double life as a serial killer by night. The eight-episode series co-starred Uraz Kaygilaroglu and was produced by BKM.
