Türkiye presented the scientific and cultural importance of the Tas Tepeler Project and Gobeklitepe at a conference held in Paris as part of efforts to introduce the country's cultural heritage to an international audience.
The Tas Tepeler Project and Gobeklitepe Conference was organized by Türkiye's Ministry of Culture and Tourism together with the Culture and Promotion Counsellor's Office at the Turkish Embassy in Paris. The event took place at the office's conference hall in the French capital.
Tas Tepeler, meaning "Stone Mounds," refers to an archaeological project that brings together research into sites that shed light on early human history. Gobeklitepe, one of the locations discussed during the event, is included on UNESCO's World Heritage List.
Tas Tepeler Project Coordinator Professor Necmi Karul took part as the main speaker and set out the scientific significance of the project and Gobeklitepe, as well as their role in understanding human history.
Paris Culture and Promotion Counsellor Burcu Ozdemir also attended the conference, which brought together academics, cultural and tourism professionals, travel industry representatives and officials from institutions working with the counsellor's office.
The presentations also drew attention to Türkiye's broader archaeological heritage and its potential to support cultural tourism.
The conference stood out as a cultural diplomacy initiative, using archaeological heritage to strengthen relations and cultural cooperation between Türkiye and France.
Organizers aimed to build up culture-focused partnerships between the two countries while reinforcing Türkiye's international profile as a cultural tourism destination.
The event wrapped up with a selection of Turkish cuisine served to participants.
