Hungary’s Ambassador to Ankara Viktor Matis emphasized the strength of Türkiye–Hungary relations during a National Day reception held at the Sheraton Hotel in Ankara, highlighting both nations’ close cooperation on bilateral and international levels.
“Our two countries play a prominent role in each other’s foreign policies,” Matis said, noting that the partnership extends beyond diplomacy to active collaboration within organizations such as the U.N., NATO, OSCE, and the Organization of Turkic States. “We actively support Türkiye’s accession to the European Union,” he added.
The event was attended by Turkish Agriculture and Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumakli, Turkish Deputy Foreign Ministers Mehmet Kemal Bozay and Zeki Levent Gumrukcu, and Deputy Defense Minister Musa Heybet, as well as foreign diplomats and guests.
Matis recalled that relations between Türkiye and Hungary were elevated to a “strategic partnership” in 2013 and to an “enhanced strategic partnership” in 2023. He pointed out that bilateral trade had increased 2.5 times in just over a decade, stating, “This year, our trade volume will reach $5 billion, and our investments continue to grow.”
He also reflected on moments of solidarity, such as Hungary’s rescue efforts during the 2023 earthquakes in southern Türkiye and the cultural collaboration under the 2024 Hungary–Türkiye Cultural Year, which featured more than 170 events. The ambassador announced that 2025 would be celebrated as the “Hungary–Türkiye Year of Science and Innovation.”
Minister Yumakli, speaking at the event, described Hungary as “not only a strategic partner but also a friend and ally with whom we share a common future.” He underlined Ankara’s determination to strengthen cooperation across all areas under the Enhanced Strategic Partnership framework, noting that the upcoming seventh meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council in Ankara would further deepen ties.
Yumakli also expressed Türkiye’s gratitude for Hungary’s steadfast support of its EU membership bid and contributions to the Organization of Turkic States. “We sincerely thank Hungary for its unwavering support and shared commitment to advancing our partnership,” he said.
