Türkiye's first and only harp producer, Anatolian Harps, is representing the country at the World Harp Congress in Toronto, Canada, where it is putting its handmade replicas of historic harps on display for the international music community.
The congress, which runs through Aug. 3, brings together harpists, academics, composers and instrument makers from different countries every three years. The program takes up academic research, new musical works and recent developments in harp production.
Anatolian Harps' founders, Ali Ozturk and Zeynep Oyku, are representing Türkiye as the only Turkish company taking part in the instrument production section of the congress.
Rather than presenting modern harp models, the company is showcasing historic replicas produced through traditional methods in Ozturk's workshop.
Ozturk, a luthier, a specialist who builds and repairs stringed instruments, and a software expert, produces the instruments, while Oyku introduces their musical and technical characteristics to congress participants.
Oyku, described by the company as the only musician performing baroque harp in Türkiye, demonstrates the replicas and explains their acoustic, aesthetic and technical features.
By bringing instrument making and musical performance together, the pair is presenting its historic harp work to international music professionals while highlighting the level reached by instrument production in Türkiye.
