Garanti BBVA experienced a widespread technical outage on Friday (May 2) that left many customers unable to access the bank’s mobile application and digital channels.
Hundreds of thousands of users attempting to log in were met with an error message stating, “We’re sorry, we are currently unable to complete your transaction,” sparking widespread panic.
The bank confirmed that the disruption was caused by a technical issue, not a cyberattack or data breach.
“All your assets and personal data within our bank continue to be protected with high security standards,” Garanti BBVA said in a statement.
To mitigate the impact, the bank announced that all branches, except those required to close early, such as locations in shopping malls, would remain open until midnight. Bank representatives continued to provide in-person service throughout the day.
Garanti BBVA said its technical teams were working intensively to fully restore digital services. “We are continuing our efforts without interruption to resolve the issue as quickly as possible,” the bank stated, expressing gratitude to customers for their patience.
