Türkiye’s Permanent Delegate to the European Union, Ambassador Faruk Kaymakci, hosted an opening reception for the exhibition Thinking Europe, marking Europe Day with an artistic lens on European identity and values.

Held at Türkiye’s Permanent Representation to the EU, the event brought together participating artists and a diverse group of guests. The exhibition features works by eight Belgian artists: Melissa Pinon, Helene Picard, Stefan Tulepo, Herve Georges Ic, Caspar Pixel Square, Laurent Suchy, Stephane Arcas, and Yves Gobart.

'Europe is more than policies and laws'

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Kaymakci emphasized that the exhibition was organized to celebrate 9 May — Europe Day — in a unique way.

"This year, we wanted to mark Europe Day differently," Kaymakci said. "We asked ourselves: what is Europe, what does Europe mean? And we wanted to reflect on that through art."

He added: "Many of us work in EU-related fields and tend to think of the EU only in terms of legislation, policy, or parliamentary votes. But Europe is also an idea, an experience, a vision — and that is what we hope to convey with this exhibition."

A dialogue between cultures

Following Kaymakci’s speech, the featured artists offered insights into their creative processes and the meaning behind their works. The event highlighted the role of art in fostering intercultural dialogue and deepening reflections on European identity.

The Thinking Europe exhibition will remain open to visitors at Türkiye’s Permanent Representation to the EU until the end of the month.
