Presley Gerber, the only son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber and the brother of model and actress Kaia Gerber, has died at the age of 27.
Gerber died on Sunday, Sept. 20, at a rehabilitation facility, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner records obtained by People. TMZ first reported his death and said an autopsy had not yet been completed.
A representative for Crawford, Rande Gerber and Kaia Gerber said the family was asking for privacy during what it described as a difficult and painful time.
Born in Beverly Hills, California, in 1999, Gerber had increasingly opened up in the years before his death about his struggles with mental health, depression and substance abuse.
Speaking on the Studio 22 podcast, he said he hoped sharing his experiences could help others avoid some of the mistakes he had made.
"Having struggled with mental health, depression and some other things that come along with that, I think that whether I help one person or a hundred people get out of that place that I was in at one point in my life, that's all I need to do," he said.
Gerber also began posting "Mental Health Mondays" videos on Instagram, discussing subjects including recovery, finding common ground with others and bringing healthier habits back into his daily life.
In a video posted in July 2025, he said he had grown up playing sports and taking part in surfing, water polo and swimming, but had moved away from physical activity after starting work. He said it took years for him to realize that he needed to reconnect with exercise.
In another video posted in December 2025 and later deleted, Gerber discussed medications he was taking for panic attacks and spoke about feeling isolated while dealing with personal loss.
In the September 2026 issue of Vogue, Kaia Gerber reflected on what the magazine described as her brother's decade-long struggle with drug addiction and how it had affected their family.
She said the experience had reshaped family dynamics and led her to see herself as the sibling who should avoid asking for help.
Kaia also said she appreciated her brother's willingness to speak openly about his experiences, contrasting his approach with the family's traditionally private public image.
"My parents for most of our lives were very, very private and didn't share anything—and now we have this absolute teacher, my brother, who says, 'I'm gonna be very human for everyone,'" she said.
Gerber entered the fashion industry at a young age and signed with IMG Models when he was 15.
As a teenager, he began attracting attention alongside his younger sister, eventually making his runway debut at a Moschino show in Los Angeles before going on to appear in a Dolce & Gabbana show in Milan and a Calvin Klein campaign.
He told W magazine in 2016 that his main concern during his earliest runway appearances was simply making it to the end without falling.
Two years later, Gerber told People that working alongside Kaia made modeling feel less lonely. Although he had performed well academically in high school, he said he decided against attending college after his modeling career began to take off.
Gerber is survived by his parents, Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, and his sister, Kaia Gerber.
