The 11th "Sivrihisar Air Shows" began this year in the Sivrihisar district of Eskisehir, bringing aviation enthusiasts of all ages together for a two-day celebration of flight.
Organized under the name "SHG Airshows" by the Sivrihisar Aviation Club Association, the event took place at the Sivrihisar Aviation Center Necati Artan Facilities, where visitors showed strong interest from the very first day.
Eskisehir Governor Erdinc Yilmaz told reporters that the Sivrihisar Aviation Center holds a very important place in Türkiye, describing it as a venue that tells the story of aviation history, development, and future rather than simply hosting air shows.
Yilmaz said young people show particular interest in the center and expressed hope that it will inspire children to dream about aviation and help produce important names in the field in the years ahead.
The Turkish Stars, the aerobatic team of the Turkish Air Force, performed a special show in the sky, joined by "Yeni Menekse" (New Violet), the aerobatic aircraft of Semin Ozturk Sener, Türkiye's first professional female aerobatic pilot.
Historic aircraft also took to the skies during the event, including a Vietnam War veteran UH-1 helicopter, Boeing Stearman biplanes, a P-51 Mustang, and a Spitfire Mk 9.
In addition to the aircraft displays, the program includes glider, paramotor, and model aircraft shows as well as parachute jumps, which are set to continue through the second day.
A replica of the "Nu.D-36" training aircraft, produced in 1936 by Nuri Demirag, one of the pioneers of Türkiye's domestic aircraft production, flew a demonstration together with a replica of the Vecihi 14, the first certified Turkish-made aircraft, which was designed and built in 1931 by Turkish aviation pioneer Vecihi Hurkus.
Hurkus's grandson, pilot Lee Vecihi Maxson, flew the Vecihi 14 replica and told reporters afterward that the flight was very emotional and that he felt as if his grandfather were flying alongside him.
With its mix of historic aircraft, aerobatic performances, and personal stories from the aviation community, the two-day Sivrihisar Air Shows come to an end today.
