Following warnings issued by the Turkish State Meteorological Service, a cold air system accompanied by precipitation has affected large parts of the country, bringing snowfall to numerous provinces, particularly in eastern and northern regions.
Several settlements were cut off due to heavy snow, while the season’s first snowfall was recorded in some provinces.
In Erzurum, snowfall that had previously been limited to higher elevations spread to the city center in the early morning hours. Snow depth reached up to 50 centimeters in some areas, and air temperatures dropped to minus 20 degrees Celsius (68 degrees Fahrenheit).
The snowfall caused disruptions to traffic, prompting municipal and highway maintenance teams to conduct snow removal and de-icing operations.
In Van, roads that were closed due to snowfall in high-altitude rural areas were reopened following intensive efforts by municipal teams.
Snow depth reached up to 50 centimeters in some locations, complicating operations. Highway teams also carried out anti-icing measures on the Van–Hakkari and Van–Bahcesaray routes.
In Kars, intermittent snowfall continues to affect daily life across the city. Fog and snowfall on the Kars–Goe highway significantly reduced visibility, posing challenges for drivers. In the Sarikamis district, snowfall intensified during the evening hours.
Despite the harsh conditions, some livestock breeders continued to graze their animals outdoors.
