A newly established modern greenhouse project in Samsun's Bafra district, backed by a ₺12.5 million ($264,635) grant from Türkiye's Agriculture and Rural Development Support Institution (TKDK), has launched rose production with the aim of eventually reaching an annual output of 2 million roses.
The greenhouse was constructed on a 19,056-square-meter site in the Bafra Greenhouse Organized Industrial Zone after the company's project was approved and it qualified for the substantial grant support.
Equipped with modern climate control systems, the fully automated facility currently produces an average of 100,000 roses per month, with plans to scale up production significantly in the coming years.
The company aims to eventually reach an annual output of 2 million roses, a target officials believe is achievable following the successful launch of the greenhouse's first harvest season.
Beyond rose production, the greenhouse has also become an important source of local employment, currently providing jobs for 16 workers from the surrounding community.
The company's board of directors stated that the fully automated greenhouse is the only one of its kind in the Black Sea region and ranks among the leading rose-growing facilities in all of Türkiye.
The company stated that the majority of the greenhouse's 16 employees are women, and the facility grows a variety of colorful roses, including red blooms, in a fully automated environment.
The greenhouse's systems are designed to automatically adjust temperature and humidity based on daily conditions, allowing the machinery and equipment to respond accordingly without manual intervention.
The company currently distributes its roses across Türkiye, while also pursuing efforts to expand into international export markets in the future.
TKDK Samsun-Sinop Coordinator Yusuf Ozbey noted that beyond the initial grant, the company also received a value-added tax (VAT) exemption to further support the project.
Ozbey described the greenhouse as a world-class, technology-intensive facility, expressing confidence that the company will reach its annual target of 2 million roses following the start of its first harvest season.
Rose farming plays a broader role in addressing Türkiye's current account deficit by supporting both domestic consumption and export potential, while offering high added value per unit of agricultural land, positioning the greenhouse as a model project for the Bafra and Samsun regions.
