Istanbul canceled several ferry services on Friday as authorities warned of heavy rain and strong winds across the city and parts of western Türkiye.

Sehir Hatlari, operated by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, announced that services on the Uskudar-Halic, Besiktas-Halic and Kadikoy-Halic routes, along with the Long Bosphorus Tour, would not operate.

Evening ferry cuts hit key Istanbul routes

Additional cancellations affect key commuter routes connecting Istanbul's European and Asian sides. The Kadikoy-Karakoy line, which links the Asian-side district of Kadikoy with Karakoy on the European side, will stop operating after 9 p.m. local time (GMT+3).

Services on the Uskudar-Eminonu route, connecting Uskudar on the Asian side with the historic Eminonu district on the European shore, will end after 8:30 p.m.

Along the Bosphorus, the Beykoz-Sariyer route, which connects residential districts on opposite shores of the strait, will suspend services after 6:55 p.m.

The Kucuksu-Istinye route, linking Kucuksu on the Asian side with Istinye on the European shore, will stop after 6:40 p.m., while services on the Cubuklu-Istinye crossing will end after 7 p.m.

Island connections will also be affected. All night sailings on the Buyukada-Sedef Adasi route, which links Buyukada, the largest of the Princes' Islands, with the smaller Sedef Island, have been canceled.

The same applies to all night services on the Kadikoy-Karakoy-Besiktas line, which connects Kadikoy on the Asian side with Karakoy and Besiktas on the European side.

Heavy rain, storm warnings cover coastal cities

Turkish State Meteorological Service expects locally heavy rainfall in Istanbul from Friday evening, with downpours forecast to intensify from midday Saturday, particularly on the city's Asian side.

Beykoz, Sile, Umraniye, Pendik, Tuzla, Sancaktepe, Cekmekoy and Sultanbeyli, all districts on Istanbul's Asian side, are expected to face very heavy or severe rainfall. Istanbul's governor's office urged residents to prepare for possible flooding, landslides and transport disruptions.

The warnings extend to the southwestern provinces of Antalya, Burdur and Isparta, where locally heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected from midday Saturday. Antalya, a major Mediterranean coastal city, could see very heavy downpours in its eastern inland areas.

From Saturday night, severe rain and thunderstorms are forecast in northern districts of Zonguldak, Bartin, Duzce and Kastamonu, provinces along or near the western Black Sea coast.

Strong winds will add to the risks. Gusts could reach 70 to 90 kph, while northern parts of Istanbul's Asian side, Kocaeli, an industrial province east of Istanbul, and Sakarya, a neighboring province inland from the Black Sea coast, are expected to face strong westerly and northwesterly winds from Saturday evening.

Authorities warned residents to watch for falling trees, roof damage, lightning, flooding and disruptions to transportation.
