Heavy rain and strong winds will batter Istanbul on Saturday. Still, the weather is set to clear on Sunday and warm up through the coming week, according to Türkiyey’s Istanbul Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM).

In its Oct. 17 bulletin, AKOM said temperatures will rise from 11°C in the morning to 15°C by midday, then ease to about 14°C in the evening and 13°C overnight. Rain is expected throughout the day, with 50 to 100 kilograms of precipitation per square meter, equivalent to 50 to 100 millimeters.

The bulletin also warned of strong north-northeast and northwest winds at 40 to 70 kilometers per hour. Combined with the heavy rain, the wind will make it feel colder than the actual temperature for anyone heading outdoors.

Rain forecast to clear completely next week

The rain will move out of the city on Sunday, leaving partly cloudy skies and highs between 12°C and 16°C.

Monday will also be partly cloudy, with temperatures between 13°C and 17°C. Saturday’s bulletin had called for light rain on Monday, but the latest update removes it from the forecast.

The bigger change arrives Tuesday, when skies turn partly to mostly clear and the high reaches 20°C.

Wednesday is likely to be the warmest day of the week, with clear to mostly clear skies and temperatures expected to hit 21°C. Conditions will stay partly to mostly clear on Thursday and Friday, with temperatures between 15°C and 20°C.
