One of Türkiye’s most cherished holiday destinations, Mugla is once again capturing the attention of travelers this season with its 110 Blue Flag beaches, pristine waters, and world-renowned marinas. The province is not only home to scenic coves and turquoise bays but also boasts three yachts, five tourism boats and 10 marinas that have received the prestigious Blue Flag certification, setting a high standard for sustainable tourism.

Bodrum, one of Mugla’s most popular coastal towns, leads the country with 71 Blue Flag-certified beaches. Bodrum Mayor Tamer Mandalinci emphasized the importance of the certification, stating, “Türkiye has 577 Blue Flag beaches, and 110 of those are in Mugla. Of those, 71 are in Bodrum, making it the district with the highest number in the country.”

A focus on inclusive and eco-friendly tourism

Mandalinci also announced efforts to increase both the number and quality of Blue Flag sites in Bodrum. “Nine of our municipal cafes have Blue Flag status. Every year, Turkish Environmental Education Foundation (TURKCEV) conducts inspections to ensure we meet the required standards,” he said.

He highlighted a new inclusive initiative: “This year, we’re launching a pilot project in Turgutreis to promote barrier-free access. With electronic systems, individuals with disabilities will be able to enjoy the sea independently and safely.”

Local hotels see Blue Flag as a badge of prestige

Selin Buket Ozsuer, general manager of a Bodrum hotel, noted that their beach has held Blue Flag status since opening. “The Blue Flag represents prestige and sustainability. It’s a key factor for international tourists seeking clean, lifeguard-patrolled, and environmentally responsible beaches,” she said.
