Muradiye Waterfall, located in the Muradiye district of Van province in eastern Türkiye, remains one of the region's most popular destinations for visitors seeking to cool off and spend time in nature during the summer months.
The waterfall sits roughly 80 kilometers (49.71 miles) from the center of Van and draws its flow from the Bend-i Mahi Stream, fed by Tendürek Mountain.
The site is named after Ottoman Sultan Murad IV, who is said to have stopped there during a military campaign and ordered it preserved.
The waterfall, known for its roaring flow, lush surroundings and striking scenery, draws particular interest from photography enthusiasts and couples taking wedding photographs.
Crowds that build up over the weekend continue into the work week, with the waterfall offering a cool environment to local visitors while hosting both domestic and foreign tourists throughout the summer.
Cumali Bozlan, who visited the waterfall with his family, told Anadolu Agency's correspondent that they had come to the area to escape the summer heat.
Bozlan said the waterfall draws interest in every season, noting, ”It is quite crowded, with people spending time here with their families. The cool air and lush surroundings offer a wonderful setting for those wanting to escape the summer heat.”
In 2023, authorities registered Muradiye Waterfall as a Qualified Natural Protection Area and Sustainable Conservation and Controlled Use Area, a move welcomed by the local community.
The site includes upper and lower viewing platforms along a walking path, as well as picnic areas near the falls.
