Approximately 18 million students enrolled in preschool, primary, middle and high schools across Türkiye will return to classrooms on Monday.
This will mark the start of the second term of the 2025–2026 academic year, following a two-week midterm break.
According to the Ministry of National Education, nearly 1.2 million teachers will resume duties in over 760,000 classrooms nationwide.
The academic year officially began on Sept. 8, 2025, and the second term is scheduled to conclude on June 26, 2026.
Students will also have a second-term midyear break between 16 and 20 March.
The ministry announced that the second term will begin with educational and awareness activities focused on promoting love for the national flag, unity and a shared sense of belonging.
Under a directive signed by Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin and sent to all 81 provinces, public and private schools will carry out activities related to the historical, national and spiritual significance of the Turkish flag between Feb. 2 and 6.
As part of the initiative, school buildings will be decorated with Turkish flags and students will take part in themed competitions and events, including painting, poetry, essay and poster contests and exhibitions, as well as various artistic and cultural activities.
