The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) issued a warning on Monday regarding a cold weather wave approaching the city.
While the week began with sunny spring weather and temperatures reaching 19 degrees Celsius, a freezing system from the Balkans will arrive by midweek.
AKOM data shows that the current mild temperatures, ranging between 17 degrees Celsius and 19 degrees Celsius, will decrease daily starting Wednesday.
Experts predict that by Friday, temperatures will fall below 10 degrees Celsius. This shift returns the city to winter conditions.
"It is estimated that the cold and rainy weather expected to come over the Balkans as of the middle of the week (Wednesday) will be effective," AKOM stated in its official report. The agency expects this system to remain over the region for five to six days.
While Monday remains dry, precipitation will begin on Tuesday evening.
The weather report indicates a steady increase in rainfall throughout the week:
Officials advise residents and visitors in the largest city of Türkiye to prepare for the sudden change. The temperature transition will be sharp. It will drop more than 10 degrees within a few days.
Authorities recommend caution against the expected intermittent heavy showers and the sudden chill. This weather will dominate the city until the end of the weekend.
