Hande Ercel, one of the most visible figures in Türkiye’s entertainment scene, has once again found herself at the center of public debate after details emerged about the luxury watch she wore during New Year celebrations.
The price of the timepiece, revealed days after her social media posts, quickly divided her followers and pushed the discussion beyond fashion into questions of taste and excess.
On Dec. 31, Ercel chose to ring in the New Year at home with close friends. Photos she later shared spread rapidly across social platforms, largely because of her coordinated outfit in gold tones.
While the overall look attracted praise and criticism alike, the watch on her wrist became the focal point, standing out as the most striking accessory in the ensemble.
According to Turkish media, the watch belongs to Panthere de Cartier, a signature line from the French luxury brand Cartier, widely known internationally for high-end jewelry and watches.
In Türkiye, models from this series are sold at prices starting from about ₺1.1 million ($25,500) and reaching up to roughly ₺1.6 million ($37,000).
As details of the watch came to light, reactions online quickly split into two camps. Some followers viewed the gold-toned outfit and the expensive accessory as excessive, while others felt the watch suited Ercel’s image and overall style.
Ercel’s popularity ensures that nearly every move she makes stays in the public eye. Although her acting performances are sometimes debated, each new project and every development in her private life tends to dominate entertainment news cycles. This constant attention has made her one of the most talked-about Turkish celebrities both at home and abroad.
In recent months, her long-term relationship with businessman Hakan Sabanci, which lasted around three years and was often linked to marriage expectations, came to an end. The breakup remained a major topic in the media for weeks.
Shortly afterward, her name began to be associated with producer Onur Guvenatam. Addressing the matter indirectly, Ercel was quoted as saying it was very new and that she would speak when the time was right, suggesting she had entered a new phase in her life.
