Türkiye's nationwide university entrance exam process begins today with the Basic Proficiency Test, as Assessment, Selection and Placement Center (OSYM) President Professor Bayram Ali Ersoy called on the public to keep noise levels down around exam centers.
The Higher Education Institutions Exam, known in Türkiye as YKS, is one of the country's main university entrance exams.
Its first stage, the Basic Proficiency Test, or TYT, brings together millions of candidates competing for higher education placements.
According to the figures shared, 2.4 million candidates are taking part in this year's YKS marathon. Among them, 921,248 candidates will sit the exam for the first time.
The data also shows that many applicants have entered the process before.
More than 665,000 candidates applied for a second time, while 447,067 applied for a third time. Another group of candidates is taking the exam for the fourth time or more.
Ahead of the exam, Ersoy shared a message on social media calling for silence during the test period.
He underlined that students should not be negatively affected by noise outside exam centers. In his message, he said construction work should be stopped and drivers should avoid honking their horns while the exam is being held.
