The Turkish State Meteorological Service has issued a yellow alert for 28 provinces across Türkiye as powerful storms, heavy rainfall, and high winds are forecast to affect much of the country today and tomorrow.

According to the latest reports, downpours and storms are expected in several regions throughout the day, with temperatures remaining near seasonal averages.

Powerful winds to sweep across the country

Winds are forecast to blow from the north and northeast across most areas, while in the southeastern regions, they are expected from the southwest. Gusts may reach storm levels of 40 to 70 kilometers/hour in Marmara, the Eastern Mediterranean, Eastern Central Anatolia, and parts of Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia.

From midday onwards, strong thunderstorms are expected around Ankara, Eskisehir, Kutahya, Bolu, and Karabuk. Meanwhile, heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast in southern and eastern Kayseri from the early hours and in Sivas and Tokat later in the day.

Southeast and East face short-term storm risk

In Southeastern and Eastern Türkiye, including Sanliurfa, Diyarbakir, Mardin, Batman, Siirt, Sirnak, Elazig, Bingol, and eastern Malatya, strong southern winds of 40–60 kilometers/hour may intensify to 60–80 kilometers/hour during rainfall. The meteorological office warns of risks, including flying debris, dust transport, and travel disruptions.

Mediterranean on tornado alert

Starting this evening, strong thunderstorms are expected in Mersin, Adana, Osmaniye, Hatay, and the western parts of Kahramanmaras. Authorities have warned that coastal regions could face tornado risks, along with flooding and severe lightning.

Strong rain is also predicted for Antalya, Burdur, and Isparta, beginning in the evening hours.

Ege region to endure prolonged rainfall

In the Aegean region, intermittent heavy rain that starts this afternoon in Mugla, Aydin, and Denizli is forecast to continue through tomorrow evening.

Across all affected areas, the public is advised to remain cautious against the risks of flash floods, waterlogging, lightning, hail, and powerful winds. Special attention is urged for those in open areas and on the roads, as disruptions to transportation and local infrastructure are expected.
