Türkiye’s state meteorological authority has issued a yellow-coded weather alert for 42 provinces, warning that heavy rainfall is expected in several regions, including Ankara and Izmir, while Istanbul is also forecast to see showers and thunderstorms.
According to the latest assessment by the Turkish State Meteorological Service, much of the country is expected to remain partly and heavily cloudy, with intermittent showers and thunderstorms across Türkiye.
Rainfall is expected to become locally heavy in the Aegean region, the Western Mediterranean, inland parts of the Western and Central Black Sea, northern and western parts of Central Anatolia, inland areas of the Eastern Mediterranean, southwestern parts of Eastern Anatolia and northern parts of Southeastern Anatolia.
Authorities also warned of strong local rainfall around southern Bursa, Bilecik, Mus, Bitlis, Van, Sirnak and Siirt.
A yellow code warning refers to a weather situation that may cause disruption and requires the public to remain cautious. The meteorological authority urged residents in affected areas to be careful and take precautions against possible problems caused by heavy rain.
Air temperatures are expected to remain around seasonal norms along Türkiye’s western coasts, while other parts of the country are forecast to stay 2°C to 4°C below normal.
Winds are expected to blow from the north in western and northern areas, and from the south elsewhere, generally with light to moderate strength.
Istanbul is forecast to reach 22°C, with cloudy skies, showers and thunderstorms expected during the day.
Izmir is expected to reach 24°C, with intermittent showers and thunderstorms. Rainfall in the city is forecast to become locally heavy.
Ankara is forecast to see a high of 19 degrees Celsius, with cloudy conditions and intermittent showers and thunderstorms. Local heavy rainfall is also expected in the capital.
