Türkiye set two world records during the abstract submission process for the 77th International Astronautical Congress (IAC), which will take place in Antalya from Oct. 5 to 9, according to the Industry and Technology Ministry.
Official data from the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) shows the congress received 8,320 scientific abstract submissions from 108 countries. This makes Türkiye the first host nation in the event’s 77-year history to reach this milestone. Of these, 1,810 submissions came from Türkiye, the highest single-country total ever for the congress. Italy previously held the record with nearly 7,000 submissions in 2024.
The congress will take place at the Antalya NEST Convention Center. It is organized by the Industry and Technology Ministry, hosted by the Turkish Space Agency (TUA), and co-hosted by SAHA Istanbul.
Industry and Technology Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacir celebrated the achievement, saying Türkiye was "proud of the intense interest shown in the submissions." He also said: "With the National Space Program we have launched under the leadership of our President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, we will stage an event that announces Türkiye's rise in space science and technologies to the world and ensures that space work serves the common future of humanity."
The 77th IAC’s theme is "The World Needs More Space." The event will bring together top representatives from the global space community, including astronauts and decision-makers, and will serve as a platform for strategic diplomacy.
Abstract submissions are short summaries of the scientific work that participants plan to present. These submissions are expected to play an important role in the congress’ contributions to the field of space.
