Türkiye showcased its growing health tourism sector at the ALZ 3rd London International Health Tourism Expo, Conference, and B2B Meetings, held on February 14–15 in London.

The event brought together representatives from 80 leading Turkish hospitals, clinics, and health tourism agencies, alongside international industry professionals.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency (AA), Türkiye’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Osman Koray Ertas, emphasized the country’s rising global profile in health tourism.

“The brand value of our country in health tourism is steadily increasing,” he said, noting that approximately 2 million tourists visit Türkiye annually for healthcare services.

Strategic importance of UK market

Ambassador Ertas highlighted the strategic importance of the UK market for Türkiye. He explained that hospitals and clinics from various Turkish cities attended the expo to present their services, from dental care to aesthetic treatments, to potential international clients.

He also stressed that health tourism is a highly regulated and sensitive sector, urging foreign patients to seek services from accredited Turkish institutions.

Health tourism as a key component of services trade

Ertas underlined the sector’s significance for bilateral economic relations, noting that health tourism is a key component of services trade.

He added that Türkiye offers world-class healthcare, backed by significant investments over the past two decades, a strong talent pool, and a growing number of highly skilled healthcare graduates.

“All these factors together enhance Türkiye’s attractiveness as a health tourism destination,” he said.

The event was supported by prominent Turkish institutions, including the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB), the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK) Health Business Council, the Service Exporters’ Association (HIB), and the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TURSAB).
