On the shore of Lake Van, Mollakasim Public Beach has become a popular destination for those looking to cool off in the summer heat, offering blue-flag status, clean water, a safe swimming area, and social amenities.
Located in the Mollakasim neighborhood in the Tusba district, Mollakasim Public Beach is one of the beaches in Turkish provinces without a sea coast to fly the blue flag, and it draws significant interest during the summer months.
The blue flag is an international certification awarded to beaches that meet strict environmental and safety standards. The beach earned the right to fly the blue flag in 2018 after meeting 33 criteria set under the categories of "environmental education and information," "water quality," "environmental management," "safety" and "services."
It welcomes tourists, vacationers and city residents every summer. In addition to lifeguard services, the beach offers social facilities such as showers, changing cabins, children's play areas and a parking lot, providing visitors with a safe and comfortable environment.
As temperatures rise, those who choose the beach spend time in the picnic areas while also swimming in the cool waters of Lake Van to escape the heat.
Mehmet Sirinbeli, who visited the beach, said that Mollakasim Public Beach is an important resource for residents. He said they had come to the beach to spend quality time with his family.
"We come here to take a short break and carry out our social activities," Sirinbeli said. Since they don't have the opportunity to travel to other cities, he explained, they prefer this place.
"Our people should leave this place clean when they depart," he added. "This place is a blessing for us. There is no other blue-flag beach anywhere in Türkiye."
Sirinbeli said people need to appreciate its value, adding that unfortunately many do not, and that citizens need to take better care of it.
Gokhan Yildirimcakar, who said he visits the beach every year, said they choose Lake Van to cool off in hot weather. He explained that they come to the lake whenever they get the chance from work and on weekends.
"Lake Van is a great advantage for our people," Yildirimcakar said. He added that it is also very nice to have picnic areas in places like this.
However, he noted that their maintenance, cleanliness and safety are also important, because visitors coming here need to feel comfortable, have a picnic in a pleasant environment and go into the lake.
"Three more beaches are being built in this area," he said, adding that they are eagerly waiting for them to open to the public as soon as possible.
Baran Ozfidan also said he came to the beach with friends to cool off in the lake. "We were overwhelmed by the heat in our neighborhood, so we came to swim in the lake," he said.
"Our lake is clean, the environment is nice," Ozfidan added. He said residents are happy when they come here, noting that they are cooling off at the beach.
