Much of Türkiye is set to remain under thick cloud cover and widespread precipitation through the weekend, with stronger rainfall expected in parts of the east and south, while colder inland and eastern areas face ice, frost and avalanche risk in higher terrain.
According to a statement from the Turkish State Meteorological Service, cloudy skies are expected across the country on Saturday, with intermittent precipitation forecast for the northern Marmara region, the eastern Mediterranean, Central Anatolia except Konya and Karaman, the Black Sea region, and eastern and southeastern Türkiye.
Rain and showers are expected to dominate in many areas, while parts of southeastern Türkiye may see thunderstorms. In colder inland and eastern zones, precipitation is forecast to fall as sleet, which means a mix of rain and snow, while higher elevations are expected to receive snowfall.
The statement said rainfall may turn locally strong in the eastern part of the eastern Mediterranean, the inland sections of the eastern Black Sea, northwestern Eastern Anatolia, and around Erzurum, Bingol, Mus, Bitlis, Sirnak, Hakkari and Siirt.
Alongside the rainfall, strong winds are expected to pick up from the south and southwest in eastern parts of Eastern Anatolia and southeastern Türkiye.
The meteorological authority also warned that icy conditions and frost are likely to hold on in inland and eastern areas. In the higher and sloped parts of the inland eastern Black Sea and Eastern Anatolia, where snow cover remains deep, avalanche danger and snowmelt-related risks continue to stand out.
On Sunday, weather conditions are expected to remain partly to very cloudy across Türkiye, with intermittent precipitation forecast in the eastern Mediterranean, northwestern Central Anatolia, the inland parts of the western Black Sea, the central and eastern Black Sea regions, eastern and southeastern Türkiye, as well as around Afyonkarahisar.
Rain and showers are expected to remain the main form of precipitation, while southeastern Türkiye may again see localized thunderstorms. In eastern areas, sleet is forecast in some places, with snow expected at higher altitudes.
The statement added that precipitation is likely to be locally strong across the eastern Black Sea, Eastern Anatolia and the eastern part of southeastern Türkiye, while icing, frost, avalanche danger and snowmelt risk are expected to continue in the east.
