A massive wildfire that broke out in the Aliaga district of Türkiye's Aegean province of Izmir has continued burning for more than 20 hours, spreading to neighboring Foca as firefighting crews battle the flames by air and land.
The fire began around 12:36 p.m. in the forested area near Horozgedigi village. Strong winds quickly drove the flames across district lines into the forests of Foca, escalating the emergency.
Ground teams worked throughout the night, while aerial efforts—halted after nightfall—resumed at first light.
The Turkish Forestry Directorate deployed a substantial response, including:
Four forestry personnel were affected by smoke inhalation. Two were treated on-site in ambulances, while two others were hospitalized. One firefighting vehicle was damaged by the flames.
Firefighters are working under challenging conditions, with high temperatures and gusting winds making containment efforts difficult.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. Türkiye has seen an increasing number of large-scale wildfires in recent years, often intensified by climate-driven heatwaves and dry vegetation.
