A large wildfire broke out in Türkiye’s Edirne province, specifically in the Susamdere area between the Kesan and Malkara districts. The fire quickly spread from stubble fields into nearby forested zones.
Upon receiving alerts, firefighting units from Kesan Forest Management Directorate and Malkara Forest Operations, supported by AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Authority), local fire brigades, and many water tankers, rushed to the scene.

Local villagers joined the battle, using their tractors to assist. Some carried water, while others tried to block the flames’ advance.
Cemal Kurnaz, one of the local responders, stated:
“We rushed in with our tractors. It spread so fast. They suspected a machine, but nothing was found. It probably started from a bottle or a cigarette. Every form of carelessness can cause this. Thankfully, the forest is not too dense here. All teams are on alert.”
Efforts continue to bring the fire under control.
